CAIRO – 14 August 2017: In the wake of his recently released EP (Extended Play record) Dichotomy and the end of a six week concert in Europe, 28-year-old Saudi-Turkish DJ Omar Basaad is on fire. His EP was released over two weeks ago, The EP contains five separate songs that all have a summer theme. The songs are befitting for the period they are released in. It topped Saudi's iTunes music chart and even received some international attention in Turkey and Russia.
Basaad was born in Jeddah to Turkish and Saudi parents. He has been practiced music since his teens, eventually going on to release the world's first official Arabic 'Dubstep' track. He performed at several clubs all across Turkey and the Middle East. He has been performing for more than a decade too. Basaad has skyrocketed to the point that he has released his very own label called Coexist Records. The title of his label expresses a view Basaad holds on what he sees is the future for musical talent in Saudi, where musical performances are largely forbidden.
Basaad states to The National that, “There are lots of young artists that sing so well that you really can’t believe it, and they are doing it on their own. Back in the day the idea was to get a record label to do things for them… Now it is like No! I am going to do it alone. I will learn what I need and then drop my own EP. "
He went on to say, "This is really great because they are not only developing themselves as an artist but as business people themselves.”
Seeing the talent amongst the Kingdom's youth, Basaad plan for Coexist Records to allow artists from the region to be able to sign on and have their career boosted by Basaad and his team, or release material through the label's account on Beatport and Shazam.
Dichotomy can be streamed on Anghami and Apple Music.
