CAIRO - 13 August 2017: AUC’s Falaki Theatre will host the White in Black group to perform “It Was Not On My Mind” play on August 25 and 26 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
The play is directed by Mouris Adly. “It Was Not On My Mind” is a new Egyptian vision of drama that mingles between two theatrical texts written by one author, transformed into only one interconnected theatrical text.
The two texts are a combination of “A Marriage Proposal” and “The Bear”, which are short one-act comedies written by internationally known Russian author Anton Chekhov.
White in Black is an independent Egyptian theater group. Although it consists of youth, they perform plays from the 1960s, aiming to revive old theater texts of great writers by following a modern vision.
Anton Chekhov was a Russian writer who is recognized as a master in writing modern short stories. He was a leading playwright of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Chekhov was born in 1860 in Taganrog, Russia. Taganrog is famous for stories such as “The Steppe” and “The Lady with the Dog”, as well as plays such as “The Seagull” and “Uncle Vanya”. In these stories, Chekhov mixes between comedy and tragedy to emphasize deep human nature and the hidden significance of everyday circumstances.
