CAIRO - 13 August 2017: The theater play, Cinema 30, will be presented at Hosabeer from August 17 until August 19.
The play was directed by Mahmoud Jamal. It is the first black and white theatre discussing the first time the camera was used in cinema; telling the story of the youth director Mounir Fared’s visit to Day el-Kamar village in Sharqia, Egypt in 1930, where they produced the first film with sound. The village did not understand the camera and they refused to help produce the film as they thought that the camera was a weapon and refused to perform.
The authority at that time made use of this ignorance. Consequently, the village faced and attacked the director because they saw the camera as a threat.
The acting crew is a group of young aspiring actors from the Faculty of Commerce at Ain Shams University. The tickets to the play are LE 25 ($1.4).
