CAIRO – 9 August 2017: The managing director of Dubai’s Mena CineFinance Michelle Nickelson wants to form the Middle East version of the Marvel Universe on the legend of African-Arab historical character Antar the Black Knight, as stated in The National on August 9.
The Marvel Universe is the universe that includes numerous heroes from American comic books, such as Spiderman, the Hulk or Iron-man. These characters have been adapted into famous films that have brought in immense profits.
Nickelson could gather the Middle East superhero production team to implement the project.
An Antar the Black Night comic book is being released in a partnership with IDW Publishing, the world’s third biggest comic book publisher after Marvel and DC. A film about Antar will also be produced.
In addition, the Middle East Film Festival and Comic Con played an important role in finding the superhero’s co-conspirators in the Antar comic book, according to Nickelson.
The artist Eric Battle, who draws comic characters in DC Comics and Marvel Comics, cooperates with Middle East superhero production team in drawing Antar comic book.
“IDW are doing the comic first of all,” she says. “And the plan is to keep developing it forward into a universe.
The project aims to make the audience outside Middle East know Antar and the history of the region.
Nickleson also sets plan to develop Antar brand by developing Antar theme park in UAE.
Antar is a famous legend character in the Middle East born from an African princess that became a slave after a war.
Antar tried hard to gin his freedom through his bravery and strength. He has faced lots of challenges and difficulties to marry his cousin Abla that was a free woman while he was a slave.
Antar has lots of works of epic Arabic poetry, which some of them were hung on the curtains of the Kaaba to preserve the Arab heritage in eight century.
