El-Wahag to perform at Bibliotheca Alexandrina

CAIRO – 6 August 2017: El Wahag free dance band will present a ballet performance in Bibliotheca Alexandrina on August 10 at 8:30 p.m. at 15th International Summer Festival that kicked off on July 10 and lasts till August 26.

El-Wahag is a ballet and free dance band established in 2003 by the artist Sherif Ali el-Gondy commissioned by the board of “Folk arts band in Alexandria.”

The band that consists of 24 dancers aged between 11 to 16 showed its first performance entitled“El Wahag” in 2003 about the life and the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Then, they performed several shows in the large theatre of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Said Darwish Opera and Creative Center in Alexandria.

Free dance emerged in 20th century that do not have certain movements because of the development of early music that influenced lots of people at that time and hence, it forms a new kind of amusement and pleasure more than the historical dance and breaks the constraints of past dances.

The International Summer Festival is a famous festival held every year in Alexandria by Arts Center showing different cultures and traditions all over the world.
