CAIRO – 27 July 2017: A multi-disciplinary program will be launched by the Palestinian Museum next September and will run until mid- December, featuring five major exhibitions, online platform, stream of its digital archive, educational programs, research projects, and conferences.
The exhibition will be inaugurated by Reem Fadda the artistic director of Marrakech Biennial in 2016, according to a released statement by the museum. Egypt Today sheds light on the origins home to Palestinian history embarking its cultural activities across the borders.
The museum has announced its 2017- 2018 program earlier this year where it will present critical reading of the representation of Jerusalem as a global city over the past 50 years through exhibitions and another second multi-disciplinary exhibition that will run in November featuring the centennial of the Balfour Declaration and aims to represent various aspects of Palestinians’ popular resistance against the impact of occupation.
The program will also feature a new version of its first satellite exhibition ‘At the Seams: a Political History of Palestinian Embroidery,’ which tackles the role of embroidery in shaping contemporary Palestinian culture through presenting dresses and artifacts.
The museum will feature an exhibition located in Geneva about the architectural design of ten selected museums worldwide in May. It will also feature an online platform called "Palestinian journeys" that explains the country’s history since 1850. Several educational programs will run alongside these exhibitions.
Established in 1997, The Palestinian Museum is located next to Birzeit University Campus overlooking the Mediterranean while it lies seven miles north of Ramallah and 19 miles from Jerusalem. Brainchild of Members of Taawon-welfare association, the museum was created as a memorial to Nakba portraying the history of modern Palestine and the expulsion of Palestinians from their homelands.
An independent Palestinian NGO, the association aimed to provide humanitarian support and development to Palestinians located in several areas such as the West Bank, Jerusalem, Gaza Strip, areas after 1948, and Palestinian communities in Lebanon.
The museum has advanced over time to feature more than the Nakba where it meant to celebrate the Palestinian culture abroad through a series of creative educational programs reflecting the present truth of the country.
Integrating a national and international presence, the museum aims to deliver a lively Palestinian cultural scene that will strengthen relations between Palestinians and those interested in their culture and history.
Considered as a transitional institution that would overcome geo-political conflict, the museum seeks to break barriers, reaching other Palestinians within the country and beyond through unique digital collections, online platforms, international partnerships, programs, and exhibitions.
The platform of divine historic value, the Palestinian museum is an essence of tradition in unifying identity and fostering Palestinians culture of dialogue and peace.
