CAIRO – 27 July 2017: An opera house will be established at the New Administrative Capital, according to a statement of Minister of Culture Helmy al-Namnam on Wednesday.
In a press conference at the cabinet headquarter in Cairo; Prime Minister Sherif Ismail held a meeting to follow the orders of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi of founding a whole cultural entity in the New Administration Capital, announcing that a new museum of modern art will be integrated.
Namnam stated in the press conference that there are 580 cultural centers across the country, of which 488 are fully functional. He added that the government has plans to open new cultural centers in Upper Egypt.
He continued to say that Egypt confronts extremism and terrorism with cultural centers, musical bands and art groups.
Earlier, the culture minister inaugurated the Opera Summer Festival in Sayed Darwish Hall in Alexandria Opera House on July 23.
The inauguration comes in parallel to celebrating the anniversary of the 1952 revolution.
The opening celebrations displayed two concerts; one in the morning and the other at night where the morning segment featured performances by children choirs of Opera Alexandria conducted by Maestro Abdel Hamid Abdel Ghafar. The performances featured patriotic songs about the country.
