The documentary film Hollywoodgate, directed by Egyptian filmmaker Ibrahim Nash’at, has been shortlisted for the Academy Awards in the Best Documentary Feature category.
“Hollywoodgate” explores a pivotal historical moment following the sudden withdrawal of the United States from Afghanistan after the 20-year-long “forever war.”
For a year, Nash’at remained in Afghanistan, documenting the Taliban’s takeover of the abandoned U.S. military assets.
The film delves into how the group transitioned from being a radical terrorist militia to a militarized regime armed with advanced weaponry left behind.
“Hollywoodgate” had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The film was written by Ibrahim Nash’at, Talal Derki, and Shane Boris, with cinematography and direction by Ibrahim Nash’at.
“Hollywoodgate” is currently being screened at Zawya Cinema.
