The renowned British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has selected acclaimed Tunisian-Egyptian actress Hend Sabry for its annual list of the 100 most influential women worldwide.
On its official website, the BBC described Hend Sabry as one of the most prominent stars in Arab cinema.
BBC highlighted her early career, starting with the film “Samet El Kosour” in 1994, which addressed the sexual oppression faced by Tunisian women at the time.
It also noted that she became the first Arab woman to serve as a jury member at the Venice International Film Festival in 2019.
Her film Four Daughters was shortlisted among the final five documentaries competing for the Oscar.
Last year, she resigned from the United Nations World Food Programme in protest against the use of starvation as a weapon against the Palestinian people.
The BBC concluded by quoting Hend Sabry, who said, “It’s not just about survival, but about rebuilding, finding purpose through struggle, and turning pain into action.”
