The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced a new AR experience in partnership with Meta to explore ancient Egyptian artifacts in stunning detail and share your journey through time.

This project was launched at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to celebrate its 122nd anniversary. Instagram's Revival project utilizes advanced augmented reality (AR) filters to virtually restore artifacts that are on display at both the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC).

Additionally, this initiative is part of the ministry’s efforts to digitize its cultural institutions.

Designed to enhance the visitor experience, this innovative project aims to redefine how people engage with Egyptian artifacts, promoting educational tourism and digital interaction.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathi, stated that this project is not merely about creating visually appealing images; it reflects Egypt's commitment to integrating digital innovation into the tourism sector. Fathi emphasized that this partnership with Instagram introduces a new level of technological sophistication to Egyptian museums. It is in line with global trends to enhance museum spaces, making them more interactive, digitally enabled, and attractive to younger audiences.

Visitors to the Egyptian Museum and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) can now scan QR codes located near selected artifacts. By using these codes, they can access augmented reality (AR) filters on Instagram. These filters digitally reconstruct statues, carvings, and other ancient objects, allowing visitors to see how they would have appeared in their original state.

Now available for free usage at The Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization NMEC.
