The 45th edition of the Cairo International Film Festival granted acclaimed American Filmmaker Eric Roberts the Golden Pyramid award.
The festival organized as well a masterclass titled "Crafting a Lasting Legacy," where Roberts shared insights from his career with the attendees.
Commenting on his preparation for new roles, Roberts stated, “Preparing for a new role feels like a love affair.”
Roberts gave the attendees an insight into the preparation for different roles.
“Art is a reward if we treat it like one, we will always be happy,” Roberts said.
Roberts added, “It's harder to play a role where you have boundaries.”
Roberts emphasized the importance of being consistently honest and credible in his work to earn the trust of his fans. He believes in every role he takes on. The acclaimed American filmmaker stated that art comes after war and education, placing it last in priority. Therefore, he feels that artists must fulfill their responsibilities; otherwise, they do not deserve to exist.
He also noted that everyone has their own beliefs, but we shouldn’t force others to adopt them.
“I express my opinion plainly and without compromise. I avoid involving myself in political or religious issues to prevent being labeled or categorized,” he said.
During the masterclass, Roberts revealed to the attendees his favorite roles which are: King Of The Gypsies, Star 80, Runaway Train, Its My Party, Love Is A Gun, and Oind Purgatory.
