CAIRO - 13 NOVEMBER 2024: The Cairo International Film Festival opens its 45th edition tonight, led by celebrated Egyptian actor Hussein Fahmy. The event will take place at Cairo Opera House, where final preparations are underway to welcome stars and filmmakers on the red carpet.
The festival, scheduled from November 13 to 22, will kick off with the global premiere of Palestinian director Rashid Masharawi’s film Transitory Dreams, with the cast and crew in attendance.
This year’s edition will feature 190 films from 72 countries, including two television episodes. The lineup includes 16 red-carpet events, 37 world premieres, eight international premieres, and 119 screenings across the Middle East and Africa.
In its 45th edition, the festival will honor three prominent figures in cinema. Renowned Egyptian director Yousry Nasrallah will receive the Golden Pyramid Award for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of his illustrious career. Actor Ahmed Ezz will be awarded the Faten Hamama Award for Excellence, and Bosnian filmmaker Danis Tanović, chair of the international competition jury, will also be recognized.
