Egyptian filmmaker Seif El Aswany, a rising voice in cinema, is set to make his directorial debut with the psychological drama short The Heir, premiering at the Cairo International Film Festival on November 14th at the Tahrir
Cultural Center, Ewart Hall.
The film will also screen on November 20th at the Hanager Theatre, Cairo Opera House.
The Heir tells the story of Adam Nadir, an ambitious Egyptian-American executive who is forced to confront the darker aspects of human nature when his precarious place in a powerful Silicon Valley family is threatened by a devastating mistake.
Through a gripping narrative blending English and Arabic, The Heir explores the lengths one might go to preserve status, raising profound questions about ambition and the cost of one’s humanity.
Seif El Aswany brings a unique perspective to the screen, drawing on his extensive experience as both an actor and a filmmaker.
Since 2009, he has appeared in four feature films, eight television series, and numerous short films, showcasing a commitment to authentic, character-driven storytelling. With experience across theatre, television, and film, El Aswany has collaborated with renowned directors like Magdy Ahmed Ali, Kamla Abu Zikry, Hani Khalifa, and Khaled El Hagar, among others.
Seif’s background in acting has shaped his approach to directing, and after years as an acting coach, he transitioned behind the camera to craft powerful narratives that bridge Middle Eastern and Western cinematic traditions.
In 2016, Seif began working as an assistant director on a variety of Egyptian short films and commercials, fueling his ambition to direct.
He later refined his directorial voice at Barcelona’s prestigious ESCAC film school, earning a master’s degree in Film Directing. During his time in Spain, he founded El Falaki Studio, a boutique production house dedicated to character-driven storytelling. The Heir is El Falaki Studio’s latest project, serving as El Aswany’s professional directorial debut and exemplifying his dedication to nuanced, compelling cinema.
