This year’s inaugural CineGouna Talent program brought together winning applicants from across the Arab world for a discussion with Melanie Goodfellow, Senior International Film Correspondent at Deadline magazine.
They explored their journeys as emerging filmmakers reinventing Arab cinema, sharing insights into their beginnings, current and upcoming projects, and their efforts to subvert stereotypes while overcoming the challenges faced by filmmakers in the region in the face of limited funding and reliance on Western film bodies.
Launched at last year’s festival, the CineGouna Rising Stars program aims to recognize and celebrate the next generation of Arab and North African filmmakers. Inspired by El Gouna’s iconic starfish, the program envisions these filmmakers as the future stars of regional cinema.
It selects ten promising talents—including writers, directors, and producers—who have already made significant contributions to their fields. These selected individuals are invited to attend the El Gouna Film Festival, where they gain exclusive opportunities to connect with industry professionals, increase their visibility, and advance their careers.
