Sherif Fathy has taken the oath for the position of Minister of Tourism and Antiquities in the new cabinet.
Fathy previously served as the Minister of Civil Aviation in 2016. He chaired Egypt's national airline EgyptAir from August 2015 for two years and was appointed to the post by former Minister of Civil Aviation Hossam Kamal.
With close to three decades of experience in the civil aviation industry, Fathy has held several leading positions with major European and Arab airlines, including KLM in the Netherlands and Northwest Airlines in the United States.
Fathy also served as the regional director of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in the Middle East and North Africa.
The European-educated aviation veteran holds several certificates in management and quality. Fathy founded a company specializing in tourism and travel business and served as Chairman of the General Assembly and a member of the Board of Directors of several companies.
Furthermore, he served as a member of the executive committees of the Arab Air Transport Association (AACO), the African Union AFRAA, and the Airline Presidents Council, members of the Star Alliance-CEB.
