Oscar-nominated Lebanese filmmaker Nadine Labaki gave an emotional speech about Palestinians' sufferings in Gaza, at the closing ceremony of the 77th Cannes Film Festival where she was a jury member.
"There are films that remind us of our reality and that the world is unfortunately divided into groups and that there are still unbearable injustices. But regardless of the group you belong to, it is not normal to stay indifferent when there are thousands of children dying” Labaki said and was interrupted by a round of applause.
Labaki added that it is not normal to stay indifferent when women are losing their eyes, their hands, their arms, their legs, and their lives for basic freedom.
It is worth mentioning that Israeli occupation forces committed a new massacre against the Palestinian people, known in the media as "The Tents Incineration," in the late hours of Sunday evening.
Last week, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to stop its military attack on Rafah in a historic emergency ruling in a case brought by South Africa that accuses Israel of committing genocide.
On Tuesday, the Israeli occupation army launched new raids on tents housing displaced people in the designated humanitarian area in Al-Mawasi, west of Rafah, leaving several martyrs and wounded.
Labaki has been selected as a jury member for the 77th Cannes Film Festival, six years after she became the first Arab woman to win a major prize from the festival.
The Oscar-nominated Arab filmmaker will serve as a jury member in the official competition along with directors Kore-era Hirokazu and Juan Antonio Bayona.
