MedFest Forum has organized a new film night. This time, the Forum management selected Mansoura to be the second governorate in Lower Egypt.
Following the astonishing success of "MedFest Cinema Nights" in Upper Egypt last February and the first film night in Damanhour, Lower Egypt, Mansoura is to host the MedFest Forum on Thursday, May 30th, in Al Hawwar Club.
Four short films from Egypt, Gordan, and the USA will be screened, followed by a panel discussion on the relationships that lead to violence and the impact of violence on health, with Public Health Advisor, Dr. Nagi Shafik, director Nadine Khan, and actor and singer Osama El-Hady, moderated by film program director at Bibliotheca Alexandria, documentary director Ahmed Nabil.
The films that will be screened are: Ahmed Samir's "Zaffa", an Egyptian short film which tells the story of a wedding that is turned upside down after rumors start spreading that the groom is planning to run away, and Noha Adel's "Marsheder", an Egyptian film that takes place in a single day that completely changes the lives of its stars.
The American documentary "Group" tells the story of three men convicted of domestic abuse. They confront the beliefs and situations that caused that abuse, aided by group therapy.
Murad Abu Aisha's "An Invitation From Nowhere to the Sea" is a Jordanian short narrative that tells the story of a 12-year-old Yasmine who tries to avoid a predetermined fate. Thus, she and her elder sister Ahlam, decide to flee beyond the limits set by their father, challenging the enemy that lies deep inside in order to reach the legendary sea.
MedFest Co-founder, Dr. Mina El-Naggar, stated, "Mansoura always holds continuous cultural events".
He added that a huge number of artists move between Cairo and Mansoura to attend cultural and cinematic events. Currently, the Forum holds Cairo events in Mansoura. It also chose Mansoura figures; Dr. Nagi Shafik and artist Osama El-Hady, to take part in the panel discussion. Dr. El-Naggar emphasized that Mansoura is one of the Egyptian governorates from which artists reach stardom, most notably Adel Emam.
"MedFest Cinema Nights" are held in the context of cooperation with the British Embassy, as part of the "For Her and With Her" project for qualifying cadres capable of organizing cultural events with respect to gender equality. Basically, "MedFest Cinema Nights" Forum moved from Sohag -Upper Egypt- on February 25th, Minya, and Beni Suef, to start its new journey in Lower Egypt; Damanhour, Mansoura, and Port Said.
"MedFest - Egypt" is an international forum for short films. It is the first of its kind in the Middle East, for it combines art and filmmaking with medicine and health through a unique cinematic experience.
It was founded in 2017 by Dr. Mina El-Naggar and Dr. Khaled Ali. The Forum screens carefully-selected films, followed by discussion panels with experts in medicine and filmmaking.
Throughout the year, it presents a parallel program that includes multiple workshops and lectures to trigger deeper discussions about art and health, along with monthly film screenings.
