The management of the annual Film Society Festival announced choosing esteemed actor Hussien Fahmy as the guest of honor for its 50th edition, scheduled to take place between June (1-12), at Cairo Opera House.
The Festival’s chairman, Director of Cinematography Mahmoud Abdel Samie, highlighted Fahmy’s solid connection with the festival, as he presented numerous films competing for the festival’s awards.
Fahmy also won several acting awards from the festival.
Abdel Samie mentioned that he has known Hussien Fahmy for a long time at the working level. Fahmy has participated in the annual Film Society Festival with 8 films over the past years. When Abdel Samie invited Fahmy to be the guest of honor for the festival's Golden Jubilee, he accepted the invitation. Abdel Samie also stated that Fahmy won the Best Actor Award in a Leading Role for "El Aar" in the ninth edition (1983) and competed for this award in 8 editions with various cinematic works.
Fahmy expressed his happiness at being selected as the guest of honor, emphasizing the significance of the festival in the Egyptian film industry. He highlighted the festival's rich history, credibility, and its emphasis on honoring creative artists in various cinematic fields.
The festival is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and in collaboration with the Cultural Development Fund, Cairo Opera House, Cinematic Professions Syndicate, and National Center of Cinema. It is considered one of the most prestigious Egyptian film festivals, with juries comprising an elite group of filmmakers. The festival focuses on the artistic value of participating films and includes a special audience award. Additionally, it is the only festival that has been held on a regular basis over several years.
