Rayane Mcirdi's eagerly anticipated short flick AFTER THE SUN is set to hold its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival's 77th edition, which is scheduled to run from May 14th to the 25th.
In the evocative setting of the 1980s, AFTER THE SUN follows a young girl who embarks on her first summer journey without her newlywed sister. Amidst the backdrop of a nostalgic family road trip from France to Algeria, she endeavors to reignite the bonds with her heritage, delving into a homeland rich with cherished memories waiting to be rediscovered.
The film, set to grace the screens of the festival's Directors' Fortnight, is scheduled for three screenings, with the first taking place on Thursday, May 23rd at 11:45 am at Théâtre Croisette, while the second and third screenings are scheduled for Friday, May 24th — one at 12 pm at Olympia/Salle 8 and another at 7 pm at Alexandre III.
Written and directed by Mcirdi, AFTER THE SUN stars Sonia Faïdi and Bellamine Abdelmalek, with co-production MALFAMÉ by Walid Bekhti, Sherianne Leïla Bekhti, and Yannis Zaccharie Bekhti.
Born in 1993 in Asnières, Rayane Mcirdi is a French filmmaker and visual artist. He graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2019, following his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Angers. Mcirdi's distinctive work resides at the intersection of documentary and fiction, delicately exploring the connections between North Africa and the Parisian suburbs.
His pieces, characterized by characters and colors deeply rooted in both popular imagination and contemplative aesthetics, have graced prestigious galleries and institutions worldwide.
