The management of the annual Film Society Festival announced dedicating its fifth edition, to late veteran actor Salah El-Saadany and late acclaimed director and screenwriter Essam El-Shamaa.
The upcoming edition will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, with the support of Cultural Development Fund, during June (1-12), at Creativity Center, Cairo Opera House.
The chairman of the festival, Mahmoud Abdul Samie, announced that the upcoming edition of the festival will be dedicated to the memory of iconic actor Salah El-Saadany. He praised El-Saadany's numerous outstanding performances in various films, saying that the actor will always be remembered by cinema lovers. Abdul Samie also mentioned that the late El-Saadany was previously honored in the thirty-fifth edition of the festival in 2009 for his contributions to Egyptian cinema. He won multiple awards throughout the festival's editions, including a certificate of appreciation for acting and a special acting award. Four films in which he starred were nominated for festival awards.
Abdul Samie also talked about director and screenwriter El-Shamaa, who was a psychiatrist and philosopher with a unique artistic vision. He began his career with director Hany Lashin and the world-renowned actor Omar El-Sherif. Their film "the Puppeteer" won multiple awards, including the best film award from the jury and audience. El-Shamaa's work as an author was selective, and he presented few works. However, his works were of great content and artistic value, which made his works immortal in the minds and hearts of Egyptian and Arab audiences for years to come.
Additionally, Abdul Samie underscored the importance of honoring El-Saadany's name and dedicating this year's festival edition to him. He highlighted the actor's contribution to enriching the art of acting and presenting numerous fabulous artistic works. El-Saadany's presence in different films left an indelible mark on the cinema industry.
