A list of stars who abandoned social media

CAIRO-22 July 2017: Various actors and musicians have started closing down their social media accounts to avoid hideously hateful comments and seething criticisms from both fans and internet trolls alike.

The most recent star to go on a “social media hiatus” is actress Ghada Abdel Razek. She closed down her Instagram account after receiving hate for going on Instagram live while she was on depression prescription pills wearing her night gown.

The next to go was Haifa Wahbi, Lebanese singer and actress, who shut down her official Facebook page after she received severe hate comments for her use of vulgar curse words after finding out that Ramez Galal pranked her for his Ramadan prank show “Ramez Tutankhamen” in 2013. She closed her account again in 2014 after receiving hateful criticism for her role in the controversial film “Halawet Rooh” or “Sweetness of the Soul”.

After threatening his fans that he will turn his Instagram account private in 2016, Justin Bieber proved to be a man of his words (who knew?) After pictures of him and Sophia Richie, daughter of the musician Lionel Richie, went viral, his fans vigorously attacked insulted her which provoked Justin to completely shut down his page on Instagram.

Finally, musician and actress Demi Lovato has also joined the social media hiatus rally in 2016, after announcing on YouNow that she will be closing down both her Twitter and Instagram account. She later announced on Twitter before shutting it down that she will keep her Snapchat account because she does not see what her fans are saying about her.
