Solar Alignment at Abu Simbel temple.
On February 22, at dawn visitors from around the world observed the unique biannual solar alignment phenomenon at the temple of Ramses II in Abu Simbel.
During the solar alignment, the sun rays enter the temple’s sanctum to light three of the four statues inside.
The three statues belong to King Ramses II and the deities Amun-Re and Re-Hor-Akhty, leaving the God of Darkness Ptah in the shadow to symbolise his connection to the underworld.
Visitors flocked to the temple to enjoy this unique phenomenon, which happens twice every year, on October 22nd and February 22nd.
