Virginia Museum of Fine Arts will return 44 ancient art pieces to Egypt, Italy, and Turkey.
The museum mangement said that it has handed over the pieces to the District Attorney’s Office in Manhattan, New York, and the Public Prosecutor’s Office will facilitate the return of the pieces to Italy, Egypt, and Turkey.
Among the recovered works is a bronze statue of an Etruscan warrior, which was said to have been stolen from an archaeological museum in Bologna, Italy, in 1963.
As for the other 43 works, they were stolen as part of an international criminal conspiracy that is currently being investigated.
