Just a few days before its Cannes premiere, Egyptian director Jad Chahine has released the trailer of his short THE CALL OF THE BROOK, which is the first Egyptian film since 2014 to compete at LA CINEF official competition at the Cannes Film Festival (May 16 to 27 2023).

THE CALL OF THE BROOK trailer features a skinny young man who wakes up and walks through the door, which makes us feel the curiosity for something to happen. This comes right after releasing the poster which revealed El Naddaha (The Caller) character, in the mood for horror.

El Naddaha (The Caller) is an Egyptian legend of a Siren-like female spirit who calls men by their names, most likely for their death or disappearance. It is especially well known in rural Egypt, both within Lower and Upper Egypt.

Screening time for THE CALL OF THE BROOK:
La Cinef program 4 | Thursday May 25, at 11:00 a.m. in Buñuel theater.

THE CALL OF THE BROOK follows a young boy who goes to a cursed brook and witnesses something that will seal his fate.

Written and directed by Jad Chahine, THE CALL OF THE BROOK stars Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Heba Khayal and Sarah Shedid. The film is an Egyptian British co-production, between Francis Hornsby Clark, Jad Chahine and Ahmed Nahla.
