CAIRO – 12 December 2022: On the occasion of the 47th opening anniversary of the Luxor Museum of Ancient Egyptian Art in Luxor, which falls on December 12, the museum will organize a number of events, activities, and educational and artistic workshops.

The museum will also present lectures that shed light on the history of its establishment and the distinguished archaeological treasures it displays that narrate the history of ancient Egyptian art in the city of Thebes from 4,000 BC until the Islamic era.

Head of the Museums Sector Moamen Othman explained that the activities will include a lecture entitled "Luxor Museum Among Museums During a 47-Year Journey", as well as artistic and educational workshops to draw and sculpt models of the artifacts displayed in the museum. Director General of the museum Alaa al-Minshawi said the museum consists of five exhibition halls, each of which depicts an aspect of the history of Thebes through artifacts that tell the history of ancient Egyptian art, military, science, and daily life from 4,000 BC until the Islamic era, with a focus on the period of the New Kingdom, known as the "Golden Age".

It should be noted that the museum was opened for visits for the first time on December 12, 1975, then a new hall was added to it in 1984. In 1991, Al-Khabea Hall, one of the most important halls of the museum, was opened to house the artifacts that were found in Luxor Temple in 1989. The most recent hall in the museum was opened in 2004.
