CAIRO – 29 November 2022: The Supreme Council of Antiquities has finished preparing and equipping a new tourist path for Egyptian and foreign tourists visiting Al-Darb Al-Ahmar Archaeological Area, to improve their experience during the visit and make it more attractive and enjoyable.
This was stated by Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mostafa Waziri, explaining that this path is being prepared for the first time with the aim of raising the efficiency of services provided to visitors to archaeological monuments in Al-Darb Al-Ahmar area, in addition to linking a group of the most important Islamic archaeological buildings in Cairo to each other, such as mosques and avenues of unique historical and archaeological importance, of which restoration work has been completed. This comes within the framework of the cooperation protocol signed between the Supreme Council of Antiquities and the Aga Khan Foundation for Cultural Services, Egypt.
Waziri added that the tourist path was equipped with a number of explanatory and indicative signs of the region's antiquities, and a number of clean-energy electric cars to transport visitors, especially the elderly, in addition to providing all means of making the path available for facilitated tourism.
For his part, Head of the Islamic, Coptic and Jewish Antiquities Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities Osama Talaat indicated that a visitors center has been established inside Al-Azhar Park equipped with exhibition halls, in addition to offering lectures to review the history of the region and its archaeological buildings so that visitors can get initially acquainted with the region and its antiquities before the start of the visit.
Talaat added that the new tourist route houses a group of archaeological buildings, including the Mausoleum of Tarabay al-Sharifi, Amir Khayrbak Funerary Complex, the Blue Mosque, Mosque and Madrassa of Umm Sultan Sha'aban, Bayt al-Razzaz Palace, the eastern Ayyubid wall inside Al-Azhar Park, the Mosque of Amir Qijmas al-Ishaqi, Al-Saleh Tala’a Mosque and Faraj bin Barquq Mosque.
