CAIRO – 31 October 2022: Thirty years ago, late Princess Diana visited the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.
Princess Diana was mainly keen on seeing the artifacts and statues of Tutankhamun, which have enjoyed a wide popularity in England since 1922 when Howard Carter discovered the great tomb of Tutankhamun.
Princess Diana left her signature on the visitors' register to mark her visit as an important event for her. The princess was passionate about antiques and archaeological treasures, and the photos that chronicled her visit to the Egyptian Museum portrayed her fascination with the treasures of the boy king and the Egyptian antiquities in general.
On the centenary of the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb and from the record of official visits to the treasures of the boy king in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, the official page of the Egyptian Museum highlighted Princess Diana’s visit on May 14, 1992, publishing photos of her visit and her signature in the register of visitors.
