CAIRO – 18 October 2022: It is known that the ancient Egyptian civilization has always fascinated researchers and scholars from all over the world.
The Egyptian civilization is considered one of the most important civilizations in the world. It is distinguished by introducing many of the first designs and inventions to the world.
The ancient Egyptians introduced the oldest beer factory in history, dating back more than 5,000 years. The factory was discovered at the hands of an Egyptian-American mission working in the Abydos area, one of the most important burial areas in ancient Egypt, in the Western Desert in Sohag Governorate, Upper Egypt.
The mission found eight fermentation units comprising 40 vessels to mix wheat and water together to produce beer. It dates back to the era of King Narmer, who ruled Egypt about 5,000 years ago and is believed to have founded the First Dynasty and united Egypt. The factory used to produce about 22,400 liters of beer in record time, and it was probably built in this place specifically to provide the beer required in the royal rites taking place in the funerary sites of the kings of Egypt.
Ancient Egyptians were the first to believe in monotheism, and apart from the idea of worship itself, the civilization of the ancient Egyptians was basically a morally focused civilization. The pharaohs adopted a set of moral foundations and based their civilization on it, highlighting them in their artifacts and inscriptions.
Furthermore, ancient Egyptians were the first to invent and design fashion. History showed that clothing and textiles had a special place in the lives of the ancient Egyptians, and after their death. This appeared after discovering the tombs of kings and priests and finding pieces of clothing that were buried with them. The priests of the Pharaonic era appeared wearing the most beautiful and sophisticated clothes while performing their rituals.
Ancient Egyptian kings wore luxurious textiles coated with gold and silver, which indicates that they preceded the global brands available in the world today. The Egyptian textile and clothing industry survived and flourished throughout the ages, from the Pharaonic era, to the Roman, Greek, Coptic, and Islamic eras, extending from the Umayyad and Abbasid eras, to the era of the modern state and the state of Mohammad Ali.
Moreover, powders and cosmetics were first invented by the ancient Egyptians. Husbands in ancient Egypt were dedicated to making their wives happy by offering them perfumes and gifts. Women of ancient Egypt were keen to adorn themselves for their husbands to see them in their best form when they returned home after a hard day at work.
Away from fashion and cosmetics, the ancient Egyptians made many other breakthroughs, atop of which is presenting to the world the first map of gold mines in history. This map, which was found written on papyrus, is now preserved in the Museum of the City of Turin, Italy. The map shows the locations of the gold mines, the mountain hills that contain “gold veins” among their geological components, as well as the huts of the miners.
Ancient Egyptians considered gold to be the most precious metal, because it was the “material of the sun,” from which “the gods were emitted,” as it was considered an embodiment of the “Golden Goddess Hathor”.
Gold was also a symbol of the immortal life of the sun and the gods, as the ancient Egyptians believed that the sun god Ra was a mountain of gold that spreads its rays on the world.
