CAIRO – 12 October 2022: Sotheby's International Auctions in London is preparing to hold an auction titled "Arts of the Middle East" on October 19.

The auction is set to include the works of a large number of Arab plastic artists, including Egyptian artists.

Among the paintings offered for sale is an untitled painting by Egypt’s artist Gazbia Sirry, depicting the Christian cross. The painting is estimated to fetch £6,000 to  £8,000.

Sirry was part of a group of female artists who came to prominence in the 1950s.

Throughout her 60-year career, she has responded to shifts in the political, social, and artistic climates in Egypt.

She is well respected for her richly colored canvases as well as her savvy perseverance in the occasional turbulence of the Egyptian art world.
