One of the most beloved objects found in Tutankhamun’s tomb is the wooden head representing him as the god Nefertem, an incarnation of the sun god at dawn.

It depicts a young Tutankhamun as per the artistic conventions of the Amarna period, with wide elongated eyes, arched eyebrows, and full lips.

The head is perched on top of a blooming blue lotus deriving from a dark blue painted base.

As the flowers were known to open at sunrise and close at sundown, the ancient Egyptians associated them with rebirth. Therefore, the whole piece was a symbol of rebirth and resurrection for Tutankhamun.
