Located at the north of Kharga Oasis is the temple of Hibis, a well-preserved site dedicated to Amun.
A lake once surrounded the temple but no longer exists.
Its foundations date to the 25th Dynasty, with some of its walls decorated by the Persian king Darius, and later rulers.
The temple's carvings are distinct in style and themes: one scene stands out in which the god Seth battles the serpent Apophis, a symbol of chaos.
