Stela of Ramses I with Seth, when king meets deity

CAIRO – 6 September 2022: This beautifully carved lunette stela depicts the New Kingdom ruler Ramses I standing before Avaris’ main deity, Seth.

The young ruler and the founder of the 19th Dynasty is depicted presenting offerings to the deity of the desert, Seth. 

 

Seth is depicted holding an ankh in one hand and a scepter in the other.

It is worth noting that Ramses I came from a family originating in Avaris with strong ties to the priesthood of Seth.
