CAIRO – 29 August 2022: The Supreme Council of Antiquities' restorers and archaeologists resumed the restoration work in the Great Pillar Hall in Karnak Temples, where the restoration of columns No. 59 and 68 has begun.
This was stated by Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mustafa Waziri, who explained that the Great Pillar Hall consists of 134 columns and that the restoration of 16 of them had been recently completed. The rest of the columns will be restored successively.
Furthermore, Waziri added that the ongoing restoration work at the temple comes in preparation for receiving Egyptian visitors and tourists during the winter season.
For his part, Head of the Central Administration of Upper Egypt Antiquities Mohamed Abdel Badie said that the restoration work
included photographic documentation, mechanical cleaning to remove dirt and mud, and chemical cleaning to remove dirt, stains and layers of soot. This is in addition to injecting separate parts, and strengthening weak colors.
