Marvel’s series “ Moon Knight” ended its six-episode with a lovely surprise through the appearance of the first Egyptian superhero in Marvel world named Layla El-Faouly, referred to as the Scarlet Scarab.
The first Egyptian superhero in Marvel Layla El-Faouly is played by Egyptian-Palestinian actress May Calamawy.
“ Moon Knight” director Mohamed Diab stated through his official Facebook account saying: “Since my daughter was 4, she wanted to straighten her hair.She never saw someone who looked like her in the media. Today this changes with LAYLA, the first Egyptian superhero. Proud to be a part of it!”
“Moon Knight” is Diab’s first series in Marvel.
The series achieved huge popularity, its cost was US 160 million, and was filmed in Hungary.
“Moon Knight” series stars Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke, and Mai al-Qalamawy, written by Jeremy Slater, and directed by Diab.
Diab declared that famed star Saba Mubarak will appear as a guest star in the last episode of the series, shown this week on the Disney+ platform, in voicing the character “Ammit”.
“Moon Knight” series was premiered in Los Angeles on March, in the presence of Marvel President and Disney President.
Diab is the first Arab and Egyptian director to collaborate with Marvel.
A number of acclaimed Egyptian artists took part in “Moon Knight” series beside Diab, including musician Hisham Nazih for the soundtrack, a film editor Ahmed Hafez for editing, and costume designer Reem al-Adl.
Diab was keen to promote the Egyptian art in “Moon Knight” as “El Melouk” song by Enaba and Double Zuksh was featured in the end credit of the series’s second episode.
Also legendary Sabah’s “Sa’at Sa’at” ( Sometimes Sometimes) was the end credits song of “Moon Knight” fifth episode.
Egyptian star Ahmed Dash played the role of a thug from Harrow’s followers in the third episode of “Moon Knight”.
