CAIRO – July 31 2022: The United Nations General Assembly designated the International Friendship Day on July 30 because it promotes and encourages peace, happiness and unity.
The United Nations encourages governments, community groups and other organizations to coordinate activities and events that celebrate the friendships we keep close.
Many events focus on reconciliation, bringing understanding and consensus, and finding comfort in those friendships that feel right at home.
We live in a difficult world between miscommunication, abuse, mistrust, discrimination and cultural discord. It seems that giving priority to peace has no less presence in the global community.
Friendship and connections are synonymous with bonding, and building those common bonds goes beyond sharing a favorite trait, characteristic, or hobby with another person or group. It also includes promoting global commitment and understanding of diversity and inclusion, as even in our differences, we can find common ground.
Physical appearances, differing opinions, political views, tastes, music, etc. are not reasons to separate people. Relationships are more than that. The United Nations promotes kindness and synergy every July.
Celebrating friendships with simple things like having coffee, going to a concert, or taking a trip to the mall are all ways to find commonalities.
The first International Friendship Day was proposed in 1958 by the World Friendship Campaign, an international civic organization that campaigns to promote a peaceful culture through friendship.
