Egypt’s Mohamed Rabie wins Honorary Mention Award at Cannes Shorts Film Festival 2022

The Egyptian film “Written” directed by Mohamed Rabie has received an Honorary Mention award at the Cannes Shorts Film Festival 2022, in France. 

Being a silent romantic comedy film, “ Written” tells a story about a controversial love story between a brother and his sister, moving to a new city, where they start going to the same cafe, without knowing.

The film starts taking a romantic yet amusing turn, when they both see a wall at the same cafe and start writing on it to each other anonymously, acknowledging how they feel lonely in this new city, falling in love eventually. 

In addition, “Written” beforehand, won the second place, as best comedy film in the short Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Greece, whilst being the first Egyptian film to participate at the mentioned festival. 

“Written” gathers one the of the youngest and brightest Egyptian talents, Where Dalia Shawky plays the role of the sister and Mahmoud Maged plays the role of the brother, who also wrote the Film.

Mohamed Rabie recently announced that he worked with the uprising stars for the second time, along with superstar Hesham Maged, in a new film called “Paydreaming”.

Rabie mentioned that he will announce the release date very soon. 

“It’s with great pleasure and pride winning such an extraordinary award, I was over the moon when I received the letter confirming my film got this award. Cannes shorts is one of the most astonishing festivals, which gather along shining artists and outstanding talents.” Says Rabie in the interview. 

Mohamed Rabie is an Egyptian director and writer.

Rabie was born on the 14th of May 1993 in Cairo.

He studied architecture, then he continued his education, specializing in the field of direction, he started his career at the age of 18 as an Assistant Director and Producer, he directed his first music video in 2012.

Rabie has credentials across a wide range of production styles and genres, including: Movies, TV shows, Documentary Films, Music Videos, & TV Commercials.
