CAIRO – 6 July 2022: Sotheby’s Auctions announced Tuesday the sale of a half granite bust of an Egyptian king of an unknown identity, belonging to the 12th / 13th Dynasty [1938-1640 BC].
The ancient Egyptian bust was sold for £22,680, after it was initially offered for sale at an estimated price starting from £10,000 to £15,000.
Sotheby's stated that the statue of the Egyptian king is 5.34 cm in height, and it was the property of the Axel Vervoordt group. The Egyptian king is depicted crowned with his hands open and relaxed on his knees, wearing a royal kilt with pleats with a mark in the center.
The auctions house clarified that the statue was in a French private collection, as it belonged to a French man named Galerie Chenel. According to Sotheby’s, the current owner bought it in 2013, and then put it up for auction. The auctions house did not announce the identity of the new buyer.
