CAIRO – 6 July 2022: Sotheby's Auctions announced Tuesday the sale of the upper part of an Egyptian wooden coffin lid, at a price of £17,640, equivalent to LE 396.900, after it was put up for sale at an estimated price of £8,000 - £12,000.
Sotheby’s explained that the upper part of the ancient Egyptian wooden coffin lid is multicolored, and belongs to the 26th Dynasty / Early Ptolemaic period, about 664-200 BC. Its height is 90 cm, and it was owned by the California Group, which acquired it in the early 1960s.
The auctions house indicated that the cover bears wonderful drawings of the ancient Egyptian winged sky goddess Nut on the chest area. Nut was drawn with a wide face, small mouth and large almond-shaped eyes, wearing an elaborate wide collar and a triple striped wig.
