Baron Empain Palace in Heliopolis celebrates World Environment Day 2022 - Min. of Tourism & Antiquities
CAIRO – 6 June 2022: As part of the celebration of World Environment Day, which falls annually on June 5, Baron Empain Palace in Heliopolis organized a number of events under the slogan "We Only Have One Earth."
The celebration was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, the UNESCO Future Builders Club, and the National Food Safety Authority.
Director of Baron Palace Basma Selim said a series of lectures for 25 children from the Asmarat neighborhood was organized as part of the celebration, with the aim of acquainting the young members of the Heliopolis Library with topics related to sustaining environmental resources, reducing waste, benefiting from waste, and recycling. A series of awareness films were also screened to emphasize the importance of protecting limited resources.
The lectures concluded with a speech delivered by Basma Selim to raise awareness of the effects of climate change on cultural heritage.
Selim added that a recycling workshop was also held on the sidelines of the celebration, where children used materials, such as water bottles, cardboard, wood and CDs, to try recycling, after receiving a training on how to separate waste.
It should be noted that World Environment Day was approved by UNESCO annually on June 5, with the aim of calling for changes to enable living in harmony with nature in a cleaner, more environmentally friendly and more sustainable manner.
