Rapper Moscow and renowned music producer El Waili dropped their much-awaited single “Dawly” along with a music video that has since gone viral.
In less than five days, the track has generated almost a million views on YouTube and has made it into the platform’s most trending videos list.
“Dawly” is a product of Moscow’s fiery, youth-driven lyrics and El Waili’s smooth, yet energetic beat.
The two artists have been discussing collaborating for some time before finally agreeing to have a studio jam in Ramadan of 2021, in which “Dawly” and “Matgalwensh” were conceived.
Despite the monumental success of “Matgalwensh”, which was released in September of last year, Moscow and El Waili decided to postpone the release of “Dawly” until the music video was ready.
Months prior to its release, a leaked version of “Dawly” made it online, and quickly, it became a rap anthem in Egypt and the Middle East. Yet, Moscow and El Waili had faith in the visual creators behind the music video, choosing to wait until the video was done.
The music video, in an ambient, dark atmosphere, shows Moscow spitting fire in a black, leather-clad fit, donning a shoulder cape and wearing a fistful of rings. From Qasr El Nil Bridge to the Pyramids of Giza, the 21-year-old is showcased taking over Cairo, similar to how his music is spreading like wildfire.
The creators behind the viral video chose to remain anonymous, paying tribute to all independent directors who helped push the Egyptian rap scene into the mainstream.
It is a homage to all visual artists in the community, reminding them that their work is always appreciated.
Hailing from Giza, Egypt, Moscow is an independent, aspiring rapper, known across the scene by many names such as “Moscow 21” and “The Golden Boy”.
With strong lyrical abilities, dedication, and passion, Moscow merges his intense, blazing themes to better come with pieces that are more representative of his diverse style.
Born in Sohag, Upper Egypt, Kareem Gaber, better known by his artistic alias, El Waili, kicked off his music career experimenting with different music genres.
In 2020, he started “El Waili” project with a track titled “2010”, leaving quite the indelible impression in the electro/chaabi EDM music scenes.
Project “El Waili” is Gaber’s deconstruction of the urban and social contexts of Egyptian neighborhoods, introducing a spectrum of experiences and feelings. Since his debut, El Waili has released 30 singles featuring artists in the trap, pop, rap, mahraganat, and electro chaabi scenes.
In February of 2021, he also released his first album, 'TokTok El Waili’, which contains ten singles that El Waili created as sonic documentation of his thoughts during his stay in El Waili neighborhood in Cairo.
