CAIRO – 25 May 2022: Egypt ranked first in Africa, fifth in the Middle East and North Africa, and 51st globally on the Travel and Tourism Development Index 2021 issued by the World Economic Forum.
Thus, Egypt’s evaluation on this indicator has hiked by 6 places compared to the evaluation of 2019. This makes Egypt one of the few countries in the world that has seen a significant improvement over the 2019 assessment, achieving 4.2 points out of 7.
This report ranks 117 economies according to a set of factors and policies related to the sustainability, resilience and development of the tourism and travel sector, which in turn contributes to the development of the country in general.
This indicator consists of five sub-indicators, which constitute an enabling environment for tourism development. This includes work environment, security, safety, health and labor market. This is in addition to tourism and travel policies that define the extent of the state’s openness, the price competitiveness in hotels and tourist places, airport infrastructure, transportation and tourism services, and the sustainability of the travel and tourism sector in each country.
