CAIRO – 19 May 2022: The Egyptian Opera House will commemorate the 10th passing anniversary of Warda Al-Jazairia through two concerts for the Alexandria Opera Troupe for Music and Singing, led by Maestro Abdel Hamid Abdel Ghaffar, on May 19 at 8 pm at Sayed Darwish Theater [Alexandria Opera] and on May 20 in Damanhur Opera House.
The program includes selections of the most famous works that the late singer presented throughout her rich artistic career.
Warda Al-Jazairia was born on July 22, 1932 in France, and then came to Egypt in 1960 at the invitation of producer and director Helmy Rafla, who presented her in her first movie “Almaz and Abdo Al-Hamouli”.
She participated in the then famous operetta ‘Watani el-Akbar” [My Greater Country] and Algerian President Boumediene asked her to sing on her country's tenth independence day in 1972.
Her real artistic breakthrough came in the song “Awqati Betehlaw” which came to light in 1979 and was composed by Sayed Makkawi. Warda also participated in several successful films.
She passed away on May 17, 2012, leaving a huge artistic wealth of hundreds of patriotic and romantic songs.
