1268 - Muslims under the leadership of Al-Zahir Baybars succeed in reclaiming the city of Antioch from the Crusaders, after it had been occupied by them for 170 years.
1502 - Christopher Columbus makes his fourth and final voyage across the Atlantic Ocean.
1798 - The French campaign against Egypt moves from the port of Toulon, led by Napoleon Bonaparte, towards Egypt.
1953 - Major General Mohammed Naguib forms his second government, after the success of the July Revolution.
1965 - Syria announces the execution of spy Eli Cohen.
1971 - The first celebration of Malcolm X Day or Malcolm X's birth anniversary; a day off in some states of the North American Union to commemorate and honor the march of the Islamic preacher.
