CAIRO - 13 July 2017: ‘The Olive Tree,’ a Spanish comedy/drama movie by director Icíar Bollaín will be screening in Balcon, Heliopolis on Monday, July 17 for a fee of LE 25 ($1.3).

The film features Anna Castillo as protagonist Alma, Manuel Cucala as her grandfather, Juan Guiterrez as uncle Alcachofa and Pep Ambros as her friend Rafa.

Alma, a rebellious 20 year old girl whose wild nature nurtures a softer side for her mute grandfather, Ramon, who suffers depression from the loss of his family’s Olive Tree, after it was sold away by Alma’s father.

When Ramon stops eating, Alma realizes he might very well be on his way to death, and so seeks to give him peace by returning his beloved olive tree before time runs out. Recruiting the help of her uncle Alcachofa and her friend Rafa, Alma must travel across Europe to find the tree, taking everyone on an emotional journey that touches on the topic of loss.

The film won ‘Best New Actress’ and was nominated for ‘Best Original Screenplay’ at the Goya awards.
