1855 - Egypt's ruler, Mohammad Said Pasha, decides to establish a mixed Egyptian and foreign merchants' council. Foreign law has leaked from this board to replace transactions in Islamic law.
1872 - The doors of the first Christian church built by the Japanese opens in Yokohama.
1888 - The publication of the first issue of the Al-Mokattam newspaper in Cairo.
1919 - The League of Nations is created in accordance with an agreement signed by the victorious Allies in World War I.
