CAIRO – 13 July 2017: Minister of Culture Helmy El-Namnam attended on Tuesday the inauguration of the Dar Al Maarif Book Fair in Alexandria titled ‘Family Reads - Nation Rises.’

‘Family Reads - Nation Raises’ is the new initiative launched by Dar Al Maarif to spread reading culture in Egypt and the Arab world to combat the extremist and terrorist ideas.

This initiative, launched at the Dar Al Maarif Book Fair in Raml Station, Alexandria with the participation of 75 publishers, will last until the end of August, 2017, confirmed member of the Board of Directors of Dar Al Maarif Mohammed Abdo.

It will include symposia and a book signing party, he added.

Alexandria was the capital of culture and journalism in the 19th century, said Namnam, emphasizing that culture is not only the responsibility of the Ministry, but also all the state institutions, especially national press institutions, who should exert efforts to spread culture.

The minister has called for cooperation between Dar Al Maarif and the Ministry of Culture to launch the initiative in all Egyptian governorates, hoping that the initiative would last during the whole summer.

The minister was accompanied by Alexandria Governor Mohamed Sultan, member of the Board of Directors of Dar Al Maarif Mohammed Abdo, the president of Alexandria University and the chairman of the Board of Directors of Dar el-Tahrir Publishing and Printing House.
