818 - The departure of thousands of Andalusians from Cordoba after the failure of their revolution against the rule of Prince Al-Hakam bin Hisham, who oppressed the revolutionaries, demolished their homes and displaced them in Andalusia, so a group of them, amounting to approximately 15 thousand, headed to Egypt. They then left Egypt for the island of Crete in the year 212 AH - and they established the Emirate of Aqrisht, which lasted for about a century and a third.
1282 - The people of Sicily rebel against the Capetians of Anjou and King Carlo I of Naples, in what became known as the Sicilian Vespers.
