About 95 percent of the development has been finished, and all manuscripts and belongings will be moved in July to make the necessary preparations for showcasing them in the renovated museum, according to Aida Abdel Ghani, general supervisor of the archives in Bab El Khalk.

The National Archives were founded in Cairo in 1828 for collecting written documentation of the state’s activities. But it was Isma'il Pasha (1830 – 1895), the Khedive of Egypt and Sudan, who thought of collecting manuscripts and remarkable books.
The library has three sections: a museum, reading rooms and a microfilm and photography laboratory, according to a statement released by the ministry.
In the reading and research rooms manuscripts are accessible as microfilms. Open-shelf photocopies of encyclopedias, translations of classics, old eastern languages books and bibliographies are available for readers. The library’s electronic data base has restored manuscripts, papyruses, periodicals and other holdings.
Minister Namnam was accompanied by Chairman of the Egyptian National Library and Archives Dr. Ahmed Al Shoky and Dar El Kotb’s general supervisor, Aida Abdul Ghani.
