Dubai husband and wife team Kayzar and Verou Poli release debut album written during lockdown

There weren’t many reasons to be grateful when the Covid pandemic effectively shut down the entertainment industry across the world.

And for musicians, entertainers and artistic directors like the husband and wife team Kayzar Iam and Verou Poli in Dubai, that was especially true.

But despite their entire entertainment and event agency business closing, they found sanctuary in music, putting their frustrated energy into creating their cross-genre pop album ‘The Beast of the Middle East.’

As well as being a way for the urtla-creative duo to continue creating during the pandemic, the album is also a love letter to Dubai.

Five of the album titles reference Dubai including the modern, Arabic-influenced pop of ‘Dubai Expo Love,’ the hip hop Flava of ‘Dubai Hustla’ and album closer ‘Dubai Skyline.’

‘Dubai has given us everything,’ says the duo. ’A beautiful life, incredible opportunities and endless possibilities. So, we decided to dedicate this album solely to Dubai as a token of our love and appreciation.

The Beast of the Middle East takes in a wide variety of styles during its seven tracks including hip hop, dance music, Arabic and pop and they’ve worked with some of Dubai’s best homegrown stars including DB GAD, Dyl3r & Tommy Jay Brownson.

In many ways, it’s not surprising that Kayzar and Verou Poli came out of the pandemic that wrecked their industry for months so strongly. They have an incredible work ethic and history of success in the music industry.

Kayzar was a casting director for Madonna, Katy Perry and Pixie Lott, creating and choreographing music videos and stage shows for some of the world’s biggest stars. Oh, and he also has his own World Record as he choreographed the world’s biggest robot dance alongside English football icon Peter Crouch.

Verou Poli meanwhile was part of a huge globe-trotting country band before relocating to Dubai and is now a recognised star in the UAE.

And even while creating ‘The Beast of The Middle East, the pair also found time to launch their own podcast and daily TV show during the pandemic while also creating music jingles for venues and companies.
