February 13 marks World Radio Day

CAIRO – 13 February 2022: February 13 was proclaimed by UNESCO Member States as World Radio Day (WRD) in the year 2011, and was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012.

Radio is a powerful way to celebrate humanity in all its diversity as it is a platform for democratic dialogue. Globally, radio remains the most widely used media. It possesses a unique ability to reach a wide audience and shape the community's experience of diversity, creating an arena for everyone to express their opinions, and make their voices heard.

Radio stations should serve different communities and provide diverse programs, perspectives, and content, reflecting the diversity of audiences in its institutions and operations.

Moreover, radio continues to be one of the most reliable and most widely used media in the world, according to various international reports.

The slogan for the 2022 edition of World Radio Day is 'Radio and Trust'.
